Sarah (talkative, bubbly, friendly)

Life story: Born and raised in the Albany area. I remember coming to the Book House as far back as I can remember, pulling all the pop-up books of the shelf and looking at them one at a time (don't worry, I put them back too!). I've always loved the being around the children's books, and now it's where I get to work!

What types of books do you enjoy, or what makes you love a book?
I mostly enjoy reading fantasy books that take me far away. I also love to read picture books because I've always enjoyed looking at the illustrations and hope to do some illustrating myself. For me to love a book, it has to have flawed characters that are more than just two dimensional. For a picture book, it has to be funny or have creative story telling and pictures.

5 must have books for a desert island:
1. His Dark Materials By Philip Pullman
2. Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling
3. The Complete Works of Jane Austen by Jane Austen
4. Harry Potter series in German by J.K. Rowling
5. The Boy Scout's Handbook

When I'm not reading I'm... doing work for my art classes and studying to become an Art Teacher.

Favorite Childhood Book: Can you pick a favorite??? How about 5? Blueberries for Sal by McCloskey, The Story of Ferdinand by Leaf, Trouble with Trolls by Brett, Time for Bed Sleepyheads by Chartier and Chartier, all of the Magic School Bus books.

Book I'm and Evangelist for: His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. I read these books for the first time in 7th grade. I was so engrossed in them I wouldn't go to sleep until 3 in the morning on a school night, and my mother would ground me from reading, of all things! I've continued to read them every year since then, and whenever I just need to sit a read for a bit and can't decide what to read, these are always the books I turn to.

Book that changed my life: see the above line.

Favorite line from a book:
"Seems to me --"lee said, feeling for words, "seems to me the place you fight cruelty is where you find it, and the place you give help is where you see it needed..."
The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman, page 208

Book you most want to read again for the first time: Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

Book you bought just for the cover: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
